Slightham Family Photo Session - Lynchburg, Virginia

I recently had the privilege of photographing this sweet family in their beautiful back yard. The evening light coming through those fall leaves couldn’t have made a better backdrop!

When getting family photos done, one of the best things you can do is to relax and try to let your kids have fun. They’re probably not going to fully cooperate.. kids rarely get excited about the idea of having their picture taken. But I promise the pictures will turn out much better if YOU as the parent stay relaxed! If the parents are upset and yelling at the kids, it’s a lot harder for me to get the kids to cooperate. I know how frustrating it can be when kids aren’t cooperating after you spent a lot of money on your photo session (trust me, I have three kids of my own!), but I promise that your kids aren’t the first ones to misbehave during a photo session.

My goal when I’m photographing families with small children is to make the session fun for them. I try to mix up the traditional posed shots with prompts that allow them to get their energy out while still allowing me to get images that show your family’s personality. I might have the kids run around the parents, tell me who in the family snores the loudest or has the stinkiest feet. Whatever it takes to get everybody smiling!
